Curriculum Samples:
1. Taekwondo- ages 7-10:
Elementary school is a great time to begin the journey into the martial arts. From a
young age, martial arts provide a perfect space to learn healthy boundaries, challenge
the mind and body, and learn respect for oneself and others. Children at this age also
need to learn how to assert control over their bodies and defend themselves against
teasing and bullying. Safe and fun exercises will reinforce these important principles
while building the foundation for their future.
Classes are structured around the traditional Taekwondo, a Korean martial art. Students
will have the opportunity to test for higher belt ranks as their skills develop. Testing
occurs three times in the year.
Uniforms and T-shirts will be available for purchase at the beginning of September.
Students are requested to come to class on time. The studio is a judgment-free
environment. Students are also required to bring their own water bottles and comply
with any relevant health compliance guidelines.

2. Taekwondo/Self Defense ages 11-13:
The “tween” years can be exciting for young girls but also stressful. Physical changes,
social pressure, bullying, and a growing sense of maturity and independence means
that girls are looking at the world in a different way, and may need a new toolbox of
skills. Not yet independent, they need guidance to make healthy choices and get
support when necessary.
Classes will combine both traditional Taekwondo and rank testing as well as delving
further into practical self defense techniques, both verbal and physical.
(Parents, this is also a great time to book a one-on-one training session to “check in”
with your daughter and learn self defense skills and principles with them. Think about
what boundaries make sense, what needs to be negotiated in order to keep lines of
communication open. This is at once, a challenging, supportive, and nurturing
experience for all involved.

health compliance guidelines.

3. Krav Maga for teens:
The High school years are filled with new experiences, friends, responsibilities and
challenges. Intellectually, emotionally, spiritually and physically – girls ages 14-18 will be
figuring out their attitudes towards authority, social conventions to build their authentic
sense of self.
How can self defense classes help them? First of all, we don’t just learn ‘in our head’.
By moving our bodies in empowering ways, our minds receive positive feedback. We
talk about the elephant in the room ie. social pressure, bullying, healthy relationships,
how to deal with previous trauma. Throughout the class we practice effective, tested
skills for everyday situations: covering the range of violent encounters from verbal
harassment and abuse, to pushing, grabbing, choking, hand to hand combat situations
and weapons defense.
● Body awareness- activating your whole body
● Grounding during stress
● Instincts- fight, flight, freeze
● Verbal strategies to aggression, harassment
● Vulnerable points against attackers
● Height/weight advantages
● Defenses from grabs, chokes
● Open upper body striking
● Effective lower body strikes
● Low kicks to disable
● Knife defenses
● Gun disarms
● On the ground defenses

4. Krav Maga for women
With maturity comes the realization that discipline is everything. Krav Maga is a life skill
that is easily learned, but is only mastered through dedication and training. Throughout
the class we practice effective, tested skills for everyday situations: covering the range
of violent encounters from verbal harassment and abuse, to pushing, grabbing, choking,
hand to hand combat situations and weapons defense.
Physical krav maga is only a small portion of the skill base necessary to live a full life.
Most stressful encounters with others are verbal or psychological. Do we use these
skills in our daily life, using our voice, practicing assertiveness through our voice and
posture? Do we know how to give support to others?
